Frequently Asked Questions

There is enough information on this topic to fill a library and beyond, so we won’t get into a lot of the deep, psychological aspects of hypnosis.  However, a simple answer to this question is – “allowing your unconscious (subconscious) to assist you in making significant changes in your life.”

The Hypnotic State is induced through the use of one or more of many techniques called “inductions.”  Once this state is achieved, the client is taken deeper into the state with the use of “deepening methods” to bring about a deep, powerful, and natural state called Hypnosis.

The Hypnotic State has been linked to being similar to the R.E.M. (Rapid Eye Movement) state achieved through natural sleep, though it is not actually an R.E.M. state, nor is it “sleep.”

For more information on Hypnosis, check out some of the world’s associations for Hypnotists and Hypnotism, such as the National Guild of Hypnotists!

Our first session will be 90-120 minutes, and will involve some getting to know you, your needs, and how best to provide service.

Subsequent sessions are normally 60-75 minutes, though the exact recommended time will be set by your Hypnosis Professional after this first session.

In general, most insurance companies do not cover Hypnotic Services.  So, clients will be seen on a “self-pay” basis.

Even if your insurance company does cover hypnosis, we will be unable to process claims directly.  Clients will be considered “self-pay” and may, at their own discretion, submit for reimbursement from their insurance company.  We do not guarantee any reimbursement.

Just like the length of your sessions, the amount of sessions will be decided with you and your Hypnosis Professional.

Hypnosis is a very personal thing, so these are decisions that will be made after you’ve had your first session, your goals are established, and your Hypnosis Professional’s assessment.

Hypnosis, as it is not considered a medical practice, is not a covered service under the Health Insurance Portability & Accessibility Act of 1996 (HIPAA).  That being said, we believe in confidentiality.

Your records, session notes, and assessments by your Hypnosis Professional will be held in the utmost confidence.  All information regarding your case will only be available to you, and your Hypnosis Professional.  If the Hypnosis Professional feels the need to speak with a supervisor about your case, information that is personally identifiable will be removed prior to this discussion.

In certain circumstances, we are required by law to provide information about your sessions.  This includes if you are a threat to yourself, or someone else, cases regarding child abuse, neglect, or endangerment, elder abuse, neglect, or endangerment, and in cases where a judge has ordered the release of the information.

The best way to answer this question is give hypnosis a try!  There is no way to tell if you will enjoy hypnosis if you haven’t given it the chance to help you!

However, there are some circumstances where we will not be able to accept you as a client, for health and legal reasons.

If you have been diagnosed with one of the following disorders medically, we will need a note from your Physician in order to work with you in hypnosis:

  • Schizophrenia
  • Schizo-affective disorder
  • Any Disorder with Visual or Auditory Hallucination
  • Epilepsy
  • Dissociative Disorder

During your first session, your Hypnosis Provider will assess you using a standard in the industry – the Reasonable Person Test (R.P.T.).  In this test, we will review if, based on your self-report, a reasonable person would conclude that there is a medical or mental health issue at the root.  In this case, you will be asked to speak with your Medical Professional and obtain a letter stating that they believe that it would be safe to continue Hypnosis.

We are happy to work with our clients to ensure that the best software is used for their circumstances.  That being said, we currently utilize:

Google Meet
Doxy Telehealth Services

It is important that the device that you use for your session allow you to be seen by your hypnosis professional, clearly hear, and not need to be held during your session. During a hypnosis session, you will be unable to hold your device during the entire session. It is also recommended that headphones be used if possible (wireless preferred for your safety).

Hypnosis should never be seen as an alternative to traditional medical or mental health treatment.

We are more than happy to work with your medical or mental health provider and coordinate care, but we do not substitute hypnosis for those standard treatments.

A hypnotist/hypnotherapist cannot and will not diagnose, prescribe, or treat any medical or mental health condition.  Nothing mentioned on this site should construe a substitute for licensed medical and mental health providers.
